Medical Assistant Classes and Curriculum

Medical Assistant Externship Requirement

As part of the Medical Assistant training program, you are required to complete a 180-hour externship program at a local clinic, physician’s office, hospital, HMO, or other allied health ambulatory facility (depending on campus).

Medical Assistant Program Length

40 weeks or 10 months

Medical Assistant Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this Medical Assistant program, you will be able to:

Prepare for Entry-Level Medical Assistant Careers

The Certificate in Medical Assistant program prepares students to handle the duties and requirements of entry-level Medical Assistant positions. You can seek employment in healthcare and medical settings such as hospitals, physician offices, and clinics.

Medical Assistant National Certification Exam

The Medical Assistant training program prepares you to take a National Certification Exam (NCCT, NHA, CMA, etc.). Successfully passing one of these exams may be a requirement for certain Medical Assistant jobs.

Washington students: In order to become employed and practice as a Medical Assistant in Washington, you must be certified or registered by the Washington Department of Health, Medical Assisting Credentialing.

Upon successful completion of the program, you may be eligible to apply for either the Medical Assistant-Certified or Medical Assistant-Registered through the Washington Department of Health. The criteria for certified and registered statuses, along with the application process, are available on the Department’s website.
