Selling insurance, Jeffery Hales gained valuable insights about working with people, listening to them express their needs, and finding solutions for them. But when COVID hit and put the brakes on the industry, Jeffrey decided to move off his ten-year career track. And while turning to an admissions role at Charter College may not seem at all related to insurance, Jeffery says he transferred his customer service skills to prospective students, and it was a perfect fit. Now, as the Admissions Director for the Eastern Washington campuses, Jeffery leads an enthusiastic team dedicated to getting students ready for employment and life.

Using Past Experience to Help Students Now

Jeffery says Charter College has a special place in his heart because of the way they changed the idea of postsecondary education. He recalled when he went back to his local community college to finish his own associate degree and how frustrated he was at every turn.

“It was a hassle trying to figure out what classes I needed to take, how to sign up for them, and even getting help with financial aid,” Jeffery recalls. “Even the admissions process was a mess of confusion.”

But at Charter College, Jeffery says it’s different. In his role, he helps students through every step of the admissions process and he uses his own experiences to relate to incoming students.

“At Charter, we help students with all of it: financial aid, career services, and academic advising,” says Jeffery. “The extra care we provide is priceless.”

Jeffery says that Charter simplifies the admissions process and the entire college experience for their students to give them exactly what they need, and he couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it all.

Being a Positive Leader at Charter College

As the Admissions Director, Jeffery makes sure his team always provides the best experience for new students. To do that, he knows they should have the same warm and welcoming attitude that he does.

“Positive energy never hurts any workforce. Sometimes all these students need is a soft-handed approach, so I practice that with my team too and make sure they understand that concept,” Jeffery explains.

Jeffery sees this ideal on display throughout Charter College and not just with his team. All departments work closely together to make sure students get the education they deserve. He says Charter College feels like a tight knit community that takes care of its members and that’s why he looks forward to work every day.

His Promise to Student Success

As someone who was nervous to go back to school and finish his degree, Jeffery feels like he can relate to a lot of the people who walk into his office. He strives to make sure that when those people leave, they have a better experience than what he had in the past. Jeffery hopes to help all the students that cross his path, using his past experiences to really show how much he cares.

“I learned that I loved helping people through my insurance work, and I’ve taken those lessons and applied them here,” Jefferey reflects. “Watching students succeed and reach with my team beside me is so inspiring.”

Jeffery says he intends to continue to bring helpful change to peoples’ lives through his role at Charter College for years to come.
