How to Find Your First Job as a Medical Assistant
If you’re thinking about a career as a Medical Assistant, the good news is that this is a great time to enter the field. Medical Assistants are in demand. But you’ll still have to find that first job. Sure, it’s a little scary, but there are ways to make the job of finding a job a whole lot easier.
Get Medical Assistant Training
You can’t enter the medical field without the knowledge and skills required to properly care for patients. This means you’ll want to complete a training program and determine if you’ll need a license to work in your state. At Charter College, we offer a Certificate in Medical Assistant that will provide you with the clinical, technical, and business skills that encompass all areas of the job. You can also continue on for an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Medical Assistant.
Complete a Medical Assistant Internship or Externship
Once you’ve completed your classroom training, it’s time to gain some experience. The best way to do this is through an internship or an externship. What’s the difference? An externship is usually shorter than an internship and allows you to shadow someone who already does the job you’d like to do. An internship can last an entire semester. At Charter College, you’ll need to complete an externship as part of your Medical Assistant certificate program.
Look for Medical Assistant Job Opportunities
There are plenty of Medical Assistant jobs out there—you just have to find one that is a good fit. Here are some places to start:
- Online Job Boards—Create an account on a few different online job boards like Monster or Indeed. You can upload your resume for a faster application process, and you can save jobs you’re interested in as you search.
